Children holding hands in a wide circle on the college lawn, palm trees behind them. A child climbing through the red bars of the climbing dome on the grass. A child sitting in muddy water at the edge of the field, laughing. Children lying head to toe in a long line across the coloured mat, making a shape with their bodies. A flower made of marigold petals and leaves on a dark cloth, ringed by printed pages. Facilitators and parents around a round table, a child on a red chair among them.

Kadam is nurturing compassionate, courageous and capable children with real-world skills and a socially purposeful mindset.

We do this through a strictly held ratio of three adults to thirty children, a flexible curriculum rooted in Integral Education and anchored by facilitators, and project-based learning so children engage with their own context. We started small with pre-primary and aim to become, in time, a school up to Class 12 that turns out adults rooted in values, with real skills and a passion to create a beautiful world.

Our pedagogy

Skills, worked through projects, across the physical, the mental and the emotional. All three at once, every day.

Our name says it. क से काया, द से दिमाग, म से मन. Body, mind and heart.

काया · Physical

The vessel of thought, intent and action.

Running, hanging, jumping, balancing, catching and throwing, and the small movements: threading, cutting, buttoning a shirt. Every day starts with an hour of it.

दिमाग · Mental

The root of all innovation and all destruction.

Memory, understanding, thinking, creativity, language and numbers. It starts with what is this? and grows into what can I do with it?

मन · Emotional

How a child is with themselves, with others, and with the world around them.

Helping, sharing, waiting for a turn, looking after things, saying how you feel, minding how a friend feels. The three circles of the day live here.

Six children kneeling on the coloured mat, arranging leaves they have collected on brown trays.
The leaves, carried in from under the Ashok trees and laid out on the mat.

None of it is taught as a subject in a period. A skill is worked through a project, and the project has all three in it at once. The leaf hunt in July was a maths lesson about big and small. It was also thirty children moving their bodies for an hour, and also a child noticing that a friend had not found a small leaf yet.

The symbol arrives when a child has met the need for it. That holds across every block of every day.

A morning here

Children start arriving by half past eight, and we officially start at nine. Every day starts with an hour of physical activity, then a fruit break, a learning block, lunch in a circle, another learning block, and a closing circle where the children talk about the day.

जब भी सेण्डपिट के पास जाता है तो वहाँ अशोक के पेड़ पर लटकने के लिये बोलता है- “दीदी, इस प लटका दो”।

A facilitator's note in one child's progress report, Nursery, 2025–26. Every time he gets near the sandpit he asks to be hung from the Ashoka tree.

Since 2004

Babu Kamta Prasad Jain Mahavidyalaya has run a college on this land since 2004. Kadam's classes run inside its building. The ground behind it is where the school will be built, from 2027, from its own earth, around a kund that fills in the monsoon.

Teenagers summer camp 2026

Ten days. A horse built from cardboard, jute and bamboo. A mural that is still on the wall. Children who would not speak in front of a group and ended up on stage. And one line we heard more than any other: can we stay a little longer?
